Nice day for a….white wedding?  Why not!?!?  Winter wedding receptions can be romantic, unique, and unforgettable.  Every aspect of the reception can become a part of a magical winter motif.  Transforming the actual wedding reception space would be the first step, and there endless ways that you can help achieve a winter theme of your liking.  You could go with multiple of different color palates such as traditional holiday colors…dark greens, burgundy, crimson reds, or something a little more elegant/classic with white and silver or gold.  Blue color tones can also translate into a lovely enchanted winter atmosphere.  Some of my favorites to incorporate into a winter wedding reception are:  tall branches, chandeliers or other pieces with crystals, copious amounts of scented candles of all sizes throughout the room, satin linens / napkins, metallic charger plates, live evergreen branches integrated into the table centerpieces and or throughout the room (this adds a fabulous element of texture as well as smell, so your guests are stimulated by a beautiful smell as they enter the room), poinsettias, pinecones, eucalyptus, ornamental berries and appropriate lighting (colored up-lights splashing up on the walls to enhance the room décor – you can also do accent lighting under your tables to add a beautiful glow), and family style tables (longer tables so family members can all sit together).  The possibilities are sensational and endless!  Next, the best part about a winter wedding….the food.  Comfort food is what most people think of during the holiday season, so why not feature some of the classics?!?  Give macaroni and cheese a new twist by serving it at a station with abundant choices for toppings –additional cheeses, bread crumbs, green onions, bacon, hot dogs, broccoli, salsa, sautéed mushrooms, roasted red pepper, jalapenos, and crumbled potato chips.  Butler pass small shooter size portions of soups, or have a soup station for your guests to choose from a selection of soups such as tomato, potato soup, chowders, and chili.  The salads can even take on a holiday feel by incorporating cranberries, walnuts, and pears.  Other items such as pot pie, garlic whipped mashed potatoes, sweet potato appetizers, squash, prime rib or turkey carving stations play into the winter / warm and cozy theme well.  If you would like to talk about how we at the Sioux Falls Convention Center can help you achieve a winter wonderland for your wedding reception, please give me a call today!
