Wine and Your Wedding Reception
Vino! Vino! Vino! Vino is the Italian word for wine. Wine has historically always been an option that frequents the scene at formal affairs….and weddings are definitely included in this scope of events. Incorporating wine into your wedding reception can be done in a multitude of fashions. It can be butler passed for your guests to enjoy during the cocktail hour, served tableside during dinner, or setup at a specialty wine station. A growing number of the population are enjoying learning more about wine, and experimenting with the different types and favors. Some even consider themselves actual “wine connoisseurs”. Hence, offering wine to your guests could be a fantastic way to show your appreciation for their presence on your special day and enrich the atmosphere of your wedding reception. Butler passing the wine involves the banquet staff moving throughout the room with trays. The staff will approach the guests to offer up a glass of wine, typically a red or a white. Tableside service is a lovely touch, and a majority of the guests will be appreciative of not only a nice glass of wine with their meal, but also the service aspect (as they will not have to leave the table and go to the bar to have a drink). Pairing the proper wine with the meal you have selected is also an important consideration that requires knowledge/experience. The wedding reception venue / catering team should be able to advise you of popular wine choices and suggestions for proper pairings. Proper pairings can make or break the entire experience for your guests, so be certain to take the time to discuss options before making selections and seek the advice of the food and beverage professionals. Wouldn’t it be fabulous to offer wine at a special “wine station” that also included a beautiful array of cheeses? Your guests would be able to visit with the banquet staff about the different wines offered, as well as have a nice appetizer before their meal. If you wanted to take it one step further, you might even include an ice sculpture into the “wine theme”. I would suggest a wine rack ice carving…..as our Chef Yancy Erickson has done for past events here at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. He carved a beautiful wine rack allowing us to display wines at the wine station to enhance the guest experience even more!
